Would you like to try free, clear, efficient, risk free, default settings for MICROSOFT WORD 2000?  If so:

  1. Make sure that WORD is closed
  2. Go to START, then SEARCH for the file normal.dot
  3. When you find that file, rename it normalz.dot
  4. Now go to http://www.is.wayne.edu/mnissani/normal.dot  and save that file (the file is there, even if you don't see it) as normal.dot in the same location where you found normal.dot before
  5. Open MICROSOFT WORD and play with the new, clearer, settings for a while.  If you like them, you are done.  To further customize the file, click the CUST icon, click COMMANDS in the CUSTOMIZE menu, and either drag icons you do not need from the tool bar to the CUSTOMIZE menu, or drag new icons you want from the CUSTOMIZE menu to the tool bar.
  6. If at any point you change your mind, delete the new normal.dot, rename normalz.dot normal.dot, and you are back to the default settings you had before going on this wild goose chase (but seriously though, these settings are much better, especially for beginners)
  7. Good luck!
